Tui Na is a form of medical massage that comprises one of the branches of Chinese Medicine along with acupuncture, herbal medicine, and Qi Gong. The techniques date back over
2,000 years and are currently used extensively in China, with all major hospitals having a Tui Na department. The treatment aims to regulate the flow of qi and blood and encourage a
restoration of balance and health through allowing the body’s innate healing system to be activated. Every patient is approached as an individual and the massage is focused
on addressing any underlying disharmony as well as the current presenting symptoms.
Tui Na can be very gentle and subtle with a focus on warming, moving and nourishing. It can also be very vigorous and physically demanding when an area needs to be energized and cleared. A combination of the techniques is often used making Tui Na effective in treating external, musculo-skeletal conditions such as sprains and frozen shoulder, as well as more deep-seated internal conditions such as insomnia and stress.
The first treatment will always start with a thorough consultation. As Tui Na is a massage based on individual diagnosis, the practitioner will need to develop an idea of the specific imbalances that are occurring in the patient. Different practitioners will use specific methods of diagnosis in varying degrees but they will generally include observation of posture, skin, and face, listening to the quality of voice, taking the pulse and tongue readings, and asking a range of questions.
Tui Na is always done through clothing so please come to your session wearing comfortable loose clothing. Depending on diagnosis the massage may be done seated or lying down. Tui Na can vary between being very gentle and relaxing, to being vigorous and firm. The techniques will be dependent on what the body needs, however the client is always in control and can request the practitioner to adapt the pressure to what they feel comfortable with.
Each treatment costs £65* and lasts for a duration of 1 hour.
