Nutritional Therapy

About Nutritional Therapy

Nutritional Therapy is a science-based healthcare discipline that considers all aspects of an individual to identify the cause of symptoms and health concerns. Using a variety of assessment methods, Nutritional Therapy practitioners investigate the origin of imbalances that may exist in the body’s systems to identify how they might link to symptoms. Underlying causes are treated through personalised nutrition and lifestyle advice in order to restore optimum health, promote vitality, and help prevent chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity.

The discipline of nutritional therapy has evolved to follow the model of Functional Medicine. This takes a patient–centred approach, recognising the influence that environmental factors, genetics and the interconnection of our body systems have on our health. At Be Well London Clinic, Nutritional Therapy adheres to this practice. Through meticulous consultation we focus on the whole person to address total wellbeing – emotional and physical. Using food and supplementation, we aim to restore the health and vitality that are often lacking, perhaps due to a deficient diet or a specific health condition.

What to expect during a treatment

Your consultation will follow a tried-and-tested process endorsed by the professional organisations that regulate Nutritional Therapists (BANT and CNHC ).

Before your first consultation you will be asked to complete a health and nutrition questionnaire providing information about your diet, lifestyle, medical history and general health. Your first consultation will typically take about 60 minutes and is used to gather an in-depth picture of your current health status, symptoms and emotional factors, all of which influence health. Where deemed necessary, your practitioner may recommend specific laboratory tests to help detect underlying causes, such as nutritional deficiencies etc.

Your practitioner will evaluate the findings based on your individual needs and drawing on evidence-based nutrition science. Working in partnership with you to achieve your goals, we will provide you with a safe, realistic and effective diet and lifestyle programme. You will receive a full report detailing recommendations and in subsequent consultations, a computerised dietary analysis will be provided.

A follow-up consultation is usually required one/two weeks after the initial visit and takes about 45 minutes. The purpose of this session is to monitor your progress and amend the programme if necessary, depending on the dietary analysis and any test results. Further follow-up consultations will be advised depending on individual requirements.
