History and Principles of Acupuncture






Acupuncture has been utilised for centuries in East Asia, and the accepted scientific evidence base of its benefits is also growing in the West. Acupuncture is seen by the World Health Organisation as a safe therapy with few if any negative side effects.

Regulation and Training

During the  three year Honours degree, University of Westminster acupuncturists undergo extensive studies in Western medicine (anatomy & physiology, pathophysiology) and the patient/ therapist relationship, as well as Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.  Over 400 clinical practice hours are undertaken,  treating patients in the University Polyclinic and NHS Gateway Clinic, Lambeth.  


All our acupuncturists have a minimum of a years work experience and are fully insured members of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC).
